We have lived in North Devon for exactly 33 years and during that time walked hundreds of miles of the North Devon coast and moorland with our daughters, family and friends yet until now we have never walked the small section of the South West Coast path (www.southwestcoastpath.org.uk) from Ilfracombe to Lee Bay.

So, with daughter Hannah and her husband Josh we set forth from a National Trust ca...

What a wonderful asset we have close by and only a few hundred yards from our door - the disused train line re-invented as a walking and cycling path for all to enjoy. It forms part of the longest coastal walk in England, The South West Coast Path, enjoyed by numerous walkers and also part of the Devon Coast to Coast Cycle Route.

Hugging the estuary you get wonderful views of the wading birds at...

Crossing the ford at Tarr Steps, a popular place for great walks, picnics and messing about in the River Barle on Exmoor.

We have enjoyed many a chuckle at others' misguided attempts to drive across, looking on from the river bank whilst they wait for a local farmer to tow them out.

If ever there was a year to attempt this, it was the long hot Summer of 2018!  The Sat Nav took us to the wrong ban...

We have been visiting Broomhill Sculpture garden over the last twenty years or so and, although we are by no means aficionados of modern art, the use of the natural landscape to exhibit the sculptures is always interesting. As we approach June, we look forward to six weeks of a Rose Festival.

The festival will include weekly floristry demonstrations and a Rose Trail will take visitors on a historic, scented journey through the garden.

Our daughter Hannah and husband Josh came to stay at Easter and we took the opportunity to book a lunch time table at The Olive Room in Ilfracombe.

Their informative website promised fine food and that's what we got. The menu offers a range of seafood dishes which is as it should be, given that we live in a coastal area.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three course meals and would certainly reco...

I know it's late, the recent cold and sunny weather would have been the best time to view the beautiful display of snowdrops in our area but there is still time to visit Rosemoor and Wheddon Cross

What a surprise! The Christmas issue of Devon Life included a full page review of our Bed & Breakfast and further articles highlighting things to do and places to eat.

So, another Xmas comes and goes but it was a busy one this year with six family guests.

Again no snow but during the thirty years that we've lived here, I can only remember a couple of White Christmases.

But the main attraction for this part of the world, whatever the time of the year, is the wonderful scenery, particularly the coastline.

We walked around Morte Point on Xmas Eve....the wind howled...
